Rescues, Why I hate them.

If it were another woman, it ... might be different. But more often than note it's a kind of misogynistic "let me have my sexy woman" at the last minute deal that just feels very 14th century European--and not in a good way.

The movies often diverge from history, in that in England and France beheading wasn't the execution they went for for the peasantry until you know who invented the guillotine.

Up until that point it was mostly nobility.

Now every now and then you will find a hanging, although if one truly advocated the death penalty (I don't know if you didn't tell) the guillotine would be the way to go.

But it's still some muscular guy taking a womans autonomy away. If she can't save her self, let her head fall. Makes good tragedy.
